What is No Frost in the refrigerator

Refrigerators have become a must-have in any kitchen. Without them, it is impossible to store modern products for a long time, and this is necessary in the conditions of the modern pace of life.

Progress went even further - there were refrigerators with a special system - No Frost, the presence of which implies "self-service" of the unit without the need for monthly manual defrosting.

No Frost - how it works and what is the difference

The refrigerator marked with the prefix "No Frost" has a special fan built-in, which, when liquid accumulates, simply blows it into the compartment. From it, in turn, it evaporates at a certain temperature.

In addition, such a fan provides a constant temperature inside the refrigerator, without differences. The compressor also works periodically at a predetermined interval, just like in a drip device system (previous generation of self-freezing devices).

Only freezers are equipped with a drip system. The unit with the usual storage of products at a low temperature still has to be periodically thawed. The No Frost system allows you not to touch this problem at all, just occasionally wipe the shelves in the refrigerator.

Attention! For successful operation of the device, it is necessary to wipe thoroughly dry after washing to avoid high humidity. This can lead to spoilage of products.

There are 2 varieties of the modern model of the refrigeration device:

  • Frost free - a system in which the main camera operates on a drip device, and the refrigeration chamber is equipped with a know-frost system;
  • Full no frost - when both cameras work in a human-independent No Frost system.

As in any technique, the know-frost system in modern refrigerators has advantages and disadvantages.

The pluses include the uniformity of temperature over the entire area of the chamber, regardless of the frequency of opening the door or placement inside warm dishes with still cold dishes. Also, the constant air circulation provided by the fans contributes to quick cooling, and freezers freeze food faster.

Attention! In all models of the modern generation of refrigerators, a control panel is located on the door, with which you can adjust the required temperature in the main chamber and the intensity of the freezing operation.

The disadvantages of using a device with No Frost system are increased electricity consumption, high noise level due to a working fan, high unit cost and reduced chamber size (due to volumetric indoor equipment). It is also necessary to remember that if the fan creates a constant circulation of air, then open products will be faster ventilated in the open.

Smart frost system

"Smart" literally translated as "smart", which means that a device with such a system responds to the degree of freezing of products. It does not allow frost to form not only on the walls of the refrigerator, but also on stored foods, which makes freezing more gentle. Also, the internal device of the refrigerator with the smart frost system is more ergonomic. Shelves and built-in containers are as spacious as possible, made of high-quality plastic or glass.

Low frost system

With such a cooling system in the freezer, cold air is evenly distributed thanks to the two walls between which the refrigerant is distributed. There are no tubes inside, which prevents the formation of local zones with a lower temperature. Condensate is allocated not so intensively, this allows you to serve the refrigerator less often than required by a conventional device, without special cooling systems. About once every six months, manufacturers of refrigeration devices with the presence of this system recommend artificially defrosting the device by removing ice from the walls.

Total No Frost System

Unlike the previous systems described, this smart program is aimed at long-term storage of products in the freezer without their total freezing until ice cubes are formed. Only flaw - because of one refrigerator on the upper and lower chamber, air from vegetables or especially smelling foods from above can easily penetrate into foods from below.

Caring for the refrigerator with this system

Despite which refrigerator, with which system the customer chooses, it is necessary to carefully care for the device to extend its service life. Everyone remembers how long the units of the ZIL company served?

This was achieved not only thanks to quality details, but also because of the careful monthly care of the thing. Our grandmothers and mothers allocated a special day off for thoroughly defrosting the refrigerator. Then this was done in order to eliminate the thick layer of ice. Now this procedure is necessary for reasons of hygiene.

Despite the fact that manufacturers praise their product with the No Frost system as a universal unit without the need for defrosting, preventive “respite” in the operation of the device is required once every six months. To do this, you must:

  • set the freezing temperature to the minimum;
  • let the refrigerator work for about an hour;
  • disconnect the device from power;
  • thoroughly wash the walls and shelves, if the parts are disassembled, remove them, wash, wipe dry and install again;
  • after washing all the internal parts, wipe the inside with a rag (preferably microfiber) and let stand with the doors open for about another hour.

It is recommended to carry out this procedure at least once every six months. To do this, you must take care in advance that there are no products in the freezer that are not suitable for repeated freezing, as the time taken to wash the refrigerator will entail partial or complete defrosting of the food.

To buy or not to buy?

Such thoughts are encountered by any buyer of refrigerators in advance of purchase or directly on the trading floor. The consultant can talk about the advantages of a particular model, and about the disadvantages, as a rule, will be silent.

Therefore, you should know exactly what you can get under the tempting and such modern sign "No Frost":

  • high-quality, but more expensive equipment;
  • it will make noise, but at the same time keep food fresh for a long time;
  • it does not need to be thawed, but it is necessary to wash it once every six months;
  • Food in such a refrigerator is best kept closed.

Models with such a system are very popular among housewives who love to procure frozen foods for the future or for the winter. Simply boil or rinse the mushrooms and berries, put them in bags or special containers and close in the freezer. The system of dry freezing as soon as possible will turn fresh fruits, vegetables and berries into winter stocks.

Another advantage of this type of refrigerator is that increased internal humidity will not be relevant for residents of the southern regions. It also makes no sense to purchase such a system for those who are used to placing products strictly at certain levels in the refrigerator to avoid spoiling them. There is only one conclusion - an ordinary refrigerator is good, and the No Frost system is better and simpler.
