How to glue a laminate on a wall

Laminate flooring is one of the most popular and sought after floor coverings. A diverse range of colors, as well as ease of installation allows the laminate to be used as decorative wall decoration.

Many variations of styling (horizontally, vertically, diagonally or staggered) will allow you to create an original design of the room.

Laminate is a floating type of floor, i.e. fastening occurs due to the fixing of the panels among themselves, and not with the base. When performing wall cladding, boards must be fixed on the contrary to the base. Installation is as follows:

  1. On the wall using glue;
  2. On a special frame (wooden crate).

Reference: When attaching the panels to the frame, there is no need for a flat wall surface, unlike the adhesive method.

When attaching the laminate, it is necessary to take into account the weight of the panels, so you should not attach it to drywall sheets. It is not recommended to decorate the walls in rooms with high humidity, as well as in rooms with sharp temperature changes.

The most suitable cladding rooms are living rooms, bedrooms and corridors. In these rooms, regardless of the time of year, indicators of temperature and humidity are favorable.

The most common installation method is glue. For fixing boards it is worth using anhydrous adhesive solutions. Before you start finishing, you need to level the surface of the wall. After completing the leveling, you need to prime and dry the room.

The surface should be absolutely flat - this will increase the adhesion area of the laminate to the wall and give a more reliable fastening. Then, using a leveling level, apply strips for the installation guide of the laminate.

Important: Mounting boards on an uneven wall is unacceptable.

In construction stores, there are ready-made adhesive mixtures. When choosing glue, you need to make your choice in favor of solutions with a less toxic composition, as well as which are easily removed from surfaces. Since it is common for a laminate to change its geometry, the adhesive composition must be resistant to deformation.

For fastening to the walls, glues like "liquid nails" are very suitable, but the price of such mixtures is higher in comparison with other types. Adhesives for a laminate, such as: Thomsit (Thomsite), Kiesel (Kisel), Kleo laminate, have proven themselves well. With their help, gluing a laminate will be quite easy.

When calculating the amount of material, it is necessary to take into account the costs of fitting in 10-20%. The most common stacking method is horizontal stacking with an offset of half the board, begin to stack from the lower left edge. With vertical stacking, work begins according to the same principle from top to bottom. The joints of the laminate boards depend on the type of lock.

When facing using quick-drying glue, the following actions are performed:

  1. Lubricate the back of the laminate board and the contact point on the wall;
  2. Press the panel for a short period of time, peel back to weather the glue;
  3. Repeatedly press the board against the wall until it sets;
  4. Subsequent boards are glued according to the same algorithm.
  5. For the final wall cladding, it is necessary to install the floor and ceiling skirting (plank), thereby giving the finished look.

Also, wall lining is performed on a pre-installed frame. The frame is mainly made of wood, since the mount on the metal profile gradually weakens and ultimately loses its original appearance. The frame lathing is performed in accordance with the laying method (horizontally, vertically or diagonally), i.e. if the laminate is stacked vertically, then the bars of the frame are installed in the same order. When making the crate, the following nuances should be taken into account:

  1. The step of the supporting bar should be half the board;
  2. The thickness of the bar should be at least 30x30 mm;
  3. First, the extreme bars are installed using a level;
  4. The middle bars are set on stretched threads;
  5. Noise-insulating, heat-insulating material can be placed in the empty space of the cells;
  6. The horizontal beam must be installed just above floor level.

The wooden frame is very convenient in that free space is formed between the cladding and the wall. With which you can hide various communications.

The panels are fastened to the bars of the crate in the following way:

  1. It is necessary to install a special hold for the first row of panels, which will exclude the movement of the laminate;
  2. Further, the connection of the boards with each other occurs with the help of locks or adhesive solution,
  3. With the help of brackets, fastening to the vertical bars occurs;
  4. To increase strength, the joints are coated with adhesive solution, applying it to the spike or groove of the inserted board.

Facing should not be done close to the floor or ceiling, the cracks are covered with decorative skirting boards or slats.

Reference: Do not use materials immediately after purchase. It is necessary to keep them in the room for future installation for 2-3 days, to avoid deformation of the boards during operation.

For walls, the same laminate is used as for the floor. The main differences of the laminate are in the type of connection:

  1. Lock or clogged. At one end of the panel there is a figured ledge, and at the other groove of the same shape. Combs are also provided that prevent the connection from disconnecting.
  2. Locks like click. On one side of the board there is a protrusion in the form of a flat hook, which is fastened by engagement.
  3. Glue. The surfaces of the boards are fastened together with glue.

In addition to colors and textures, you need to pay attention to the class. It is the main indicator of the strength of the material, which naturally affects the pricing policy. The higher the grade, the better the performance. Facing walls of the room do not carry any load, so you should choose a low-grade laminate from 21 to 31. Also choose the material with the smallest thickness to reduce the load on the fastening elements.
