How to check the inverter on the monitor

An inverter is a device that converts direct current into alternating current and changes the magnitude of the voltage. If it fails, the voltage cannot be regulated and a breakdown occurs. There are several ways to determine if the inverter is faulty (most of all they relate to the loss of backlight or image). Repair will be different depending on the malfunction.

How to check the monitor inverter

There are several malfunctions that may concern the inverter:

  1. The backlight does not turn on.
  2. The lamp turns on for a few seconds, and then turns off.
  3. Instability of brightness.
  4. The image is constantly blinking.
  5. The image then appears, then disappears (it can work without interruptions for several days, then stop, and then earn again).

As you can see, all of the above malfunctions relate to the image or backlight. They cannot work if the voltage regulation is incorrect. This is how it can be determined that the inverter is faulty.

Reference! You can check the inverter by inspecting visual damage. If there are none, try connecting another bulb. So it turns out to determine that this particular part is faulty.

What could be the malfunctions

There are several malfunctions that may concern the inverter:

  1. Thin stripes across the screen. The contact between the matrix chip and the loop board was broken. Repair is not possible.
  2. Wide stripes across the screen. Violation of the contacts of the loop, control board or microcircuits. Recovery is not possible.
  3. The image is blinking. Incorrect supply voltage.
  4. The monitor turns on and off when it wants. Damage to the capacitors (he could swell) and the stabilizer.
  5. No backlight. Damage to one of the parts responsible for the backlight.
  6. No reaction to button presses. Damage to the loop or buttons.
  7. There is a backlight and no image, only a white screen. The matrix is not receiving power.

How to repair by yourself

If it was possible to determine that the problem is precisely the inverter, we need to disassemble the device and check for external damage on the board. We do the following:

  1. If swollen electrolytes are detected, they must be replaced.
  2. Now turn on the device. If the problem remains, the inverter needs repair. It is important to return the voltage to normal.

The causes of the malfunction can be several:

  1. The inverter fuse has blown.
  2. No voltage is supplied through the power supply.
  3. Transistors have broken.
  4. Damage to capacitors.

After checking, you need to try turning on the device again.

Now we determine how well the backlight works. For this:

  1. We disconnect the loop from the matrix. This is necessary so that the current does not flow to the matrix.
  2. Now turn it on and see how the matrix will be illuminated. We need to see shades that differ from normal white (if any, we can say for sure that the problem is in the backlight). If we see red or black shades, the lamp needs to be replaced. If the lamp is defective, the inverter trips.
  3. There are times when the lamp does not light at all. Here, the inverter connectors are thrown, and the lamp is connected to other channels of the part. In place of the old lamp, you can put a new one. If it also does not work, the cause of the breakdown concerns the transformer.

Attention! Transformers can be two on one lamp, and there can only be one. We take a tester to check the resistance. If it exceeds 50 ohms, the product must be replaced.

When to contact a specialist

The first case, if you need to replace a faulty lamp. The problem is most likely not the complexity of the replacement, but the fact that the same lamp is difficult to find. Masters already have experience in solving such problems, and they will definitely advise something.

The second is if the capacitor is swollen and a short circuit occurs. This could damage not one but several parts of the TV. It is better to entrust the inspection to specialists, especially since you can be sure that the fuse has blown.

And the last, most important problem, if the user does not understand anything in the TV device. He does not know what parts it is made of and where they are. It is better to take the TV to a service center.

You can repair the inverter yourself, if a person has experience working with televisions, and he knows their structure.
