Joystick test

In some cases, the user needs to check the operation of the joystick. This should be done not only when acquiring a new controller, but also in the event that problems arise during operation.

How to check the joystick for serviceability

To carry out the joystick test, you must connect it to a personal computer, since it is the Windows OS that allows you to calibrate and configure this device. Gamepads are usually connected in two ways:

  1. Via USB cable. In this case, after connecting, the driver will automatically install, after which a message will appear that the device is working properly and is ready to work.
  2. Bluetooth connection. In this case, the user should pair with each other before calibrating and adjusting the gamepad.

REFERENCE! To connect a Bluetooth gamepad to your PC, you need a wireless module that supports bluetooth. Typically, on laptops, it is built-in by default, and a PC may require an external module that can provide a Bluetooth connection.

After connecting, press the key combination Win + R, after which the command "joy.cpl" should be entered in the opened line. In the open menu "Game Devices" you need to select the model of the connected joystick and click RMB. Then select the "Properties" sub-item, which will open the interaction menu with all the control functions on the gamepad. Also, the menu "Game Devices" can be opened through "Start" - "Control Panel" - "Game Devices".

ATTENTION! If the required model is not displayed in the list of gaming devices, there may be a problem in the absence of the necessary driver. In order to download additional software, you should go to the official website of the developer, find the model of the necessary gamepad and download the latest driver.

If key interaction is not displayed in this menu, the device does not work correctly. If the connection was made via USB, check the cable and connector. If the gamepad is wireless, you need to check the battery level or batteries.

Joystick calibration

The gamepad may work properly, however, in some cases, for its more correct operation it requires calibration. To make this setting you need to go to the "Start" menu - "Control Panel" - "Game Devices". Open the menu "Settings" - "Calibrate".

ATTENTION! Initially, the gamepad handles should be in a neutral position.

After starting calibration, the user needs to follow simple instructions that will help the system recognize both the neutral and extreme positions of the handle. The program can also calibrate additional joystick axes and key assignment.

REFERENCE! Also, to configure and calibrate the joystick, there are many different third-party applications that can not only ensure the optimal operation of the joystick, but also determine the reassignment of keys on the device itself. For those users who do not want to download additional software, there are online services for adjusting and debugging parameters.
