It is necessary to know which model of the motherboard is on the laptop if you need to update the drivers or reinstall the OS in order to correctly select the necessary software for its full operation. You can find out this information in various ways.

An easy way to find out the motherboard model on a laptop

At first glance, the easiest and most reliable way is to simply disassemble the laptop and look at the markings on the board to determine its model. In fact, to get to the coveted inscription, you may need to almost completely disassemble the laptop, because in a compact device all the elements are intertwined with each other. For an inexperienced user, this procedure can take several hours.

And time is not the main criterion. In one inaccurate movement, you can easily damage a board or other important element. There are several reasons for deciding on a laptop.

  1. The laptop does not turn on or the image does not appear on the screen.
  2. Software methods did not help.
  3. There was a need to replace internal elements.

In other cases, it is better to limit yourself to other options to find out the model of the motherboard.

Important! If the laptop is still under warranty, then in any case it should be carried to a service center. If you disassemble the device yourself, you will lose the possibility of a free warranty service.

How to find out which motherboard on a laptop through the command line

The way that almost any user of a device with the installed Windows operating system can use is the command line. A small minus of this method, a small amount of information can be considered.

First you need to start the command console. There are several ways to do this. Press the “Win” + ”R” keys simultaneously, then in the window that appears, in the line “Run” enter the query “cmd”. You can also do this through the Start menu, in the Search line. In the Windows 10 operating system, the console can be called by right-clicking on the "Start" menu and selecting the appropriate item.

Then, in the console itself, you must enter the command "wmic baseboard get manufacturer", the result of its execution will be the name of the manufacturer. To find out the model, enter the command “wmic baseboard get product”.

Here is a short list of actions for determining the model of the motherboard through the console:

  1. Press the key combination "Win" + "R".
  2. Enter the query "cmd"
  3. We enter the commands “wmic baseboard get manufacturer” and “wmic baseboard get product”.

Reference! You will have to enter commands into the console manually - the copy method does not work correctly or does not work at all. Also, console commands are “case sensitive” and should be followed.

We learn information about the motherboard using third-party programs

If more detailed information is required, then additional software can be used. One of the most popular options is AIDA64. Thanks to it, you can see not only the model of the motherboard, but also many other characteristics, for example, the temperature of various elements or the amount of RAM.

The advantage of this program is its functionality, but, unfortunately, it is paid, and the free version has some limitations. But even in the free version, you can find out all the necessary information. You can download it from the official site. And after installing it, the name of the motherboard and all the data about it will be in the tab "Motherboard".

More simple and free is the program "CPU-Z". Its volume is only a few megabytes and you can download it, also from the official site. It does not require configuration and can be used immediately after installation. The disadvantage of this program is its not very convenient interface.

There are several more similar programs, for example:

  1. Speecy.
  2. HWiNFO32.
  3. FREE PC Audit.
  4. System spec.

But for the most part, their functions duplicate each other - it makes no difference which program to use.

We use the manufacturer’s official website for information

Another way is to use the manufacturer’s website. But for this, you need to know the exact model of your laptop. We go to the manufacturer’s website and look for the “Support” tab on it, in the English version of the site it is “Support”. Sometimes it "hides" in another tab, for example, "Service".

After going to the support page, you will see a window. Enter your laptop model here. Then you will receive detailed information about your device. Here you can find out not only the motherboard number, but also find all the necessary drivers for it. Also on this page are detailed characteristics of other elements of the laptop, such as a processor or video card.
