How to connect a laptop to a laptop

Connecting laptops with each other is necessary for different purposes: transfer files or documents, play games over a local network, control a laptop remotely. There are several ways to complete the process, which can be wired or wireless. Each user selects a method that is suitable for him. To create a full-fledged local network, use the technology LAN or Wi-Fi.

How to connect via HDMI

The fact is that on laptops HDMI connector is needed for data output, but not for their adoption. Connecting them via HDMI ports is pointless. Thus, the connection via the digital output is used to transfer only the digital image or sound to an external device that is intended for this. For example, a picture from a laptop monitor can be displayed on a TV.

Wi-Fi connection features

The simplest and most common way to connect two laptops is to use wireless communication technology using a Wi-Fi module.

IMPORTANT! For both devices, the network adapter must be provided and activated. This can be done in hardware or software, depending on the laptop model.

Microsoft's operating system provides for the creation of a "point-to-point" operating mode, so you can connect them with a few clicks:

  1. Go to the "Networks and Internet" section through the control panel, then to the "Network and Sharing Center".
  2. Select wireless network management, then in the window that appears, click on the "Add" button.
  3. Create a computer-to-computer network, enter the required data: name, encryption type and password.
  4. Then click on "Next" and confirm the action with the "Finish" button.

To allow network sharing, you need to check all items with permission in the "Advanced sharing options" section. This method of connection will allow you to transfer files between devices, as well as use a single access point to access the Internet.

We use LAN-port

Using connectors for a network cable is suitable in cases where one of the laptops does not have a wireless communication module or it is faulty. Also, if the device's WiFi adapter is active and used to access the Internet.

Each laptop is equipped with a network card with special connectors for crossovers. To connect them, you must purchase a cable and connect devices to it. After that, you need to make the software network settings on both computers. To do this, do the following:

  1. Go to the settings to change the parameters of the adapter through the control panel or call the command line using the key combination Win and R. We set "ncpa.cpl" and press OK.
  2. Local network connection is selected in the network settings. Then call the context menu by pressing the right mouse button. Go to the properties in the tab "Network" click on the TCP / IPv4 protocol and click on "Properties".

Then you need to register addresses on both laptops. In the protocol settings of the first device, we write:

  • IP address 192.168.1.1.
  • Subnet Mask 255.255.255.0.

On the second laptop we prescribe the same mask address, in the IP address we change only the last digit to 2. After clicking on the OK button, two laptops will be connected to exchange information. They will be available in the network environment by IP addresses.
