How to hide a gas boiler in the kitchen

A gas boiler is an almost indispensable attribute for many. Someone he is only responsible for hot water, some install it for heating the house. However, the boiler is a bulky, often white construction, which in its original form does not fit into any interior.

For safety reasons, the boiler must not be located in a residential building (even the kitchen combined with the living room is not suitable), so it is often installed in the basement in the houses, where it is not an eyesore for anyone, and in the apartments - in the kitchen. Many housewives, due to the fact that the boiler is looking a large white spot against the background of the common room, refuse to use it in the direction of more expensive options. However, for this reason, do not put an end to it. Inquisitive craftsmen have already come up with several ways to disguise a gas boiler so that no one would suspect its existence.

Is it possible to hide a gas boiler for individual heating: safety standards

There are no documents that state that a gas boiler cannot be hidden. However, there are requirements for its installation, which must be observed:

  • In the room where the boiler will be located, a window and a door are required. It must be well ventilated.
  • The boiler must not be installed near a sink, stove or refrigerator closer than 30 cm.
  • When sewing in a closet, it is important to pay attention so that it does not have a bottom and top. The door should preferably be trellised.
  • Cabinet walls or niches should be lined with refractory material.
  • There must be an air gap of at least 3 cm between the boiler and the walls on all sides.
  • The room must be equipped with a gas leak detector.
  • The power of the boiler to be hidden must not exceed 60 kW.
  • The boiler must be provided with free access. You can’t tightly mount it into the wall.

Important: do not neglect these safety rules for the sake of aesthetics.

Despite the fact that there are many of these requirements, their observance is possible by various design decisions.

How to hide a gas boiler in the kitchen: best ideas

How you can hide a gas boiler is limited only by your imagination. If you yourself rarely design something or do it yourself, you can turn to ready-made design solutions. They vary both in complexity of execution and in cost, which expands their possibilities of choice for every taste and color.

Hiding in the kitchen

Sewing a gas boiler into the kitchen is one of the most ergonomic solutions. Moreover, this can be planned even at the stage of purchase or modeling of the headset itself, which will ensure perfect concealment of the boiler without unnecessary problems. This is especially true for those who rarely communicate with construction tools or are unsure of getting a good result.

It is much more difficult and not always possible to integrate the boiler into an already purchased set, therefore it is advisable to determine in advance whether it is necessary. Often, just the height, width or depth of the cabinet is not enough to safely place the boiler in it. In this case, it is advised to completely remove one of the elements of the headset and put a new one. But this is not necessary. If there is free space, you can simply sheathe the boiler from above under the design of the kitchen set.

Hide with drywall

Self-casing often comes down to tearing down the boiler using drywall or chipboard. To carry out this work is not difficult, following the following algorithm of actions:

  • The boiler is measured and the necessary parameters of the new cabinet are calculated taking into account the air gaps.
  • Side walls are cut in accordance with the measurements taken.
  • Provide the walls with the required number of holes for furniture curtains.
  • Using the level, fasten the walls of the future cabinet.
  • The back wall does not need to be installed.
  • Fasten the rails and, hooking on the fasteners on them, hang the cabinet door on the curtains. For better ergonomics, it should be ordered in the same salon as the kitchen set. This will make it possible to make the cabinet for the gas boiler look like it was going along with the entire kitchen set.
  • The resulting design neatly hides the boiler and secures it.

Important: at the end of the installation, you need to make sure that the measurements and calculations are performed correctly, and that the necessary air gaps are provided in an adequate manner.

We use a niche in the wall

The use of a niche in the wall is probably the simplest option, in which all construction work is reduced to the manufacture and fastening of the door (in case you need it).

However, it’s not so easy to specially prepare a niche for the boiler. If you are thinking about purchasing a boiler at the repair stage, then yes, in most cases this will not be difficult for you. But it’s impossible to fit the boiler to an existing niche. If its dimensions do not meet the requirements, then you can’t even dismantle it, as in the case of a kitchen set.

If you are still a happy owner of a niche in the wall, the dimensions of which allow you to place a gas boiler in it, then give preference to this method better, as it is the most durable and cost-effective option. The door can be ordered at the company in which the kitchen set was made, or if materials are available, make it yourself. You can completely dispense with the door by decorating the gas boiler in an interesting way.

Kitchen design with gas boiler

Before moving on to the idea of installing a gas boiler, it is important to decide whether you will somehow hide it, and if so, how. This can affect both the choice of the boiler itself (they are wall and floor), and the entire kitchen design. You should not do everything in a hurry: repairs, like buying a headset, are often done for more than one year, and it is important that you are comfortable in the room where you spent a lot of time and effort.

  • You can easily come up with a design yourself if you are not devoid of creative abilities, or you can make your choice, relying on ready-made and actively used options in everyday life.
  • According to some kitchen designs, you won’t say that inside one of the cabinets a gas boiler can be hidden: both a wall-mounted, small in size, and a floor-mounted one, characterized by its bulkiness.
  • If there is a niche in the non-residential premises, be sure to consider it as an option where you can hide the boiler.
  • Having shown non-standard thinking, you can make a gas boiler almost one of the main design elements.
  • And you can simply pleasantly decorate, emphasizing the style of the kitchen.

Some users equip the kitchen so that they don’t have to hide the boiler at all - it fits perfectly into the design in its original design.
