How to update the browser on the TV

Televisions, at a modern level of development, are no longer just an apparatus for viewing television programs, but an ever-increasing hybrid of a television receiver with a computer. Now the TV is connected to the Internet and allows them to use as conveniently as on a computer - but view multimedia content on the big screen. A TV with the ability to access the Internet is called "smart", that is, SmartTV.

Smart tv

The manufacturer installs a browser as part of the factory firmware, but with the development of Internet technologies, it may stop displaying content correctly (the same Flash Player is updated almost weekly), or it just does not suit the user for ease of use.

Many owners like to watch YouTube in the built-in browser, but there comes a time when the service stops opening or the picture starts to twitch - so you need to update your browser.

IMPORTANT! In the event of a problem, starting to solve the problem is through an update, the procedure, in principle, is also suitable for installing a browser of another developer, if this model of TV allows.

How to update browser

Smart TVs are produced by many brands, but the leading ones in popularity are LG and Samsung. The latter has a pre-installed fast and multi-tasking AppTV browser, but those who wish can try to install both Yandex.Browser and Chrome, which are available for free in the official store. For each brand, the sequence of actions (in terms of menu item names) may vary, but the basic principles can be formulated for all brands. So:

  • The update may affect either a separate component - the browser, codecs, or require a complete flashing of the device.
  • By the source of updates - this can be a flash drive prepared in advance on a computer or an online update, from the manufacturer’s website or the “application store”. It is logical that since we are talking about a browser, it means that the TV has Internet access.
  • Access can be either wired (LAN cable) or wireless (WiFi or even a cellular modem).

IMPORTANT! When updating, uninterrupted access to the network and power supply is required. If the process is forcibly terminated - there is a chance to get a non-working device that will be repaired already in the service center.

  • Before carrying out the procedure, it is recommended to study the instructions for the TV, in its absence - to find on the Internet by model (as a rule, there is a search on the manufacturer’s website).

LG update via flash drive. First you need to find and download the installation files. To find out which series and version of the browser is already installed, you need to go to the "Support" tab in the "SETTINGS" menu and find the "Product Information" item. Next, download the update from the manufacturer’s website, write it to the USB flash drive and insert it into the TV. Following the intuitive messages that appear on the screen, we carry out the procedure for installing a new version.

LG Update Online. This is the easiest way, no flash drive or computer is needed. You also need to go to the "SETTINGS" menu, then "Support", the sub-item "Update". If an update is available, a message with the latest version number will appear; if not, a notification that there is no need for an update. After downloading and installing the software, the TV will reboot.

Samsung TV Browser Upgrade. In the TV menu, select "Support" - "Software Update". It is recommended that the entire firmware be updated from the media, the browser separately - it is also possible via the Internet. To update from a USB flash drive - select "Update now", otherwise - "On the network." In any case, the TV will show the version of existing software and available new. After clicking "Yes" - a new distribution downloads and installs.

Install alternate browser in TV Samsung. It is performed by pressing the bright hex button on the remote control. Going to the application store, we find the right one, in our case it’s Yandex browser or Google Chrome, click "Download" and upon its completion - "Launch".

Recommendations

REFERENCE! Sometimes, during the update process, the browser is installed incorrectly. Initialization of the application can help or rollback to the old version.

You can also do this by going to the "SETTINGS", "Support" menus. Next, select "Initialization" and in the drop-down list find the browser. After that, the TV will also reboot, and if the problem persists, it is recommended that you select the menu item "Fix update problems".

If you cannot resolve the problem yourself, contact a service center.
