How to seal a hole in a laminate on the floor

Laminate flooring is a very popular flooring. It has a wide selection of textures and colors. It also has excellent wear resistance. But over time, even on such a floor covering, various defects can form.

The most common damages are:

  • Cracks;
  • If there is excessive humidity in the room or liquid is often spilled on the floor, this leads to swelling of the floor covering;
  • With careless use or careless movement of furniture, scratches of various depths very often appear;
  • With mechanical stress or prolonged pressure, chips or dents may occur;

The gaps in the coating should not be ignored. Over time, they most often lead to complete deformation of the entire laminate. Also moisture penetrates through them into the inner layers of the product, which leads to swelling. If no action is taken, then after some time it may be necessary to completely replace the entire floor covering.

Regardless of whether the damage is severe or not, it will spoil the entire appearance of the floor covering.

Almost all defects that appear on the surface of the laminate can be disposed of on their own.

There are several ways to get rid of emerging defects.

How to seal a hole in a laminate on the floor? This method is very similar to using a ready-made paste to repair laminate damage, which can be purchased at the store. Before applying it, you must prepare the surface. To do this, wipe the laminate to remove all dust and dirt. Around the defect formed, it is necessary to stick masking tape.

Using a spatula, putty should be put on the hole, then carefully align it and remove all excess. After it has completely dried, the masking tape needs to be peeled off and the remaining putty removed with a damp cloth or rag.

This option is not suitable for passable places, since vibration occurs when walking and the putty will start to crumble quite quickly.

Repairing damage with gypsum and sawdust

A mixture of sawdust and gypsum is the most inexpensive way to get rid of various chips, cracks and scratches. For this you need:

  • Plaster and sawdust. They must be mixed in proportions of 1x1;
  • Add a small amount of water and mix thoroughly the resulting mixture;
  • It should be a thick mixture, the consistency of a paste. If the solution is too thick, then you need to add more water;
  • The resulting paste must be carefully wiped existing defects, removing all excess. After drying - wipe the floor;

If the hole is quite deep, then first you need to put a wooden chip in it and only then apply a mixture of gypsum and sawdust.

Instead, you can use glue instead of gypsum. Glue and sawdust are mixed in the same proportions, however, water is not required to be added. The effect will be the same as when using gypsum. However, after carrying out restoration work, the treated area will need to be varnished.

Sealant cracks

This option is only suitable for shallow defects. Sealants are colored and white. If the first option is used, then you need to choose it as close as possible to the color of the laminate, if white - then after grouting it must be painted over. The sealant has the property of shrinkage, so the repair must be carried out in several stages, allowing it to completely dry. You need to use a soft rubber spatula, so the risk of damage to neighboring areas will be minimal.

Of course, carrying out restoration work is quite simple, however, it is best to prevent damage. To do this, you need to properly care for the laminate.
